Our objective was to design a scalable naming infrastructure capable of becoming the identity layer for the Bittensor ecosystem. Beyond simplifying wallet addresses, the platform establishes trusted digital identities, enables domain ownership and trading, and provides APIs for future integration with wallets, exchanges, and decentralized applications.

Project Mission
TAO Name Service (TNS) is a decentralized naming infrastructure for the Bittensor ecosystem. It replaces complex SS58 wallet addresses with human-readable .tao domains, making blockchain interactions simpler, safer, and easier to adopt while creating the foundation for decentralized digital identity across the AI ecosystem.
DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
step 1
Architecture Design
Designed a hybrid infrastructure combining off-chain performance with decentralized verification and blockchain transparency.
step 2
Core Registry
Developed the .tao domain registry, ownership management, wallet resolution, and registration logic.
step 3
Trust Layer
Integrated IPFS and Bittensor EVM to create immutable domain history and independent ownership verification.
step 4
Ecosystem APIs
Built APIs enabling wallets, dApps, exchanges, and external services to resolve and interact with .tao domains.
step 5
Marketplace & Administration
Developed internal management tools alongside decentralized domain trading capabilities.
CHALLENGES
- Bittensor lacks smart contracts. We built a hybrid architecture with off-chain speed, decentralized trust, and on-chain verification.
- Blockchain addresses are complex and error-prone. Memorable .tao domains make transactions simpler and more user-friendly.
- Centralized infrastructure wasn't an option. Every domain registration, transfer, and update remains independently verifiable.
- The solution had to become more than a standalone application – it needed to serve as a reusable infrastructure layer for future wallets, exchanges, marketplaces, and AI-powered decentralized applications.
UNIQUE FEATURES
Hybrid Decentralized Architecture
Instead of relying exclusively on smart contracts, TNS combines high-performance off-chain services with IPFS storage and Bittensor EVM verification. This architecture delivers lower operational costs, excellent scalability, and complete transparency while preserving decentralized trust.
Human-Readable Web3 Identity
Users replace long SS58 wallet addresses with memorable .tao domains that resolve directly to blockchain accounts. This dramatically improves user experience, reduces transaction mistakes, and makes the Bittensor ecosystem more accessible to mainstream adoption.
Immutable Ownership Verification
Every domain lifecycle event, including registration, transfers, and updates – is cryptographically hashed, stored on IPFS, and logged on-chain. Anyone can independently verify ownership history without trusting centralized infrastructure.
API-First Ecosystem
TNS was designed as infrastructure rather than a standalone application. APIs enable seamless integration with wallets, exchanges, AI services, and decentralized applications, allowing .tao domains to become a universal identity layer across the Bittensor ecosystem.
SMOOTH DELIVERY
This project required significantly more than software development – it demanded deep architectural thinking across Web3, cloud infrastructure, decentralized storage, and blockchain verification.
Our team designed the complete solution from architecture through implementation, balancing scalability, security, transparency, and operational efficiency. The resulting platform provides a production-ready decentralized naming infrastructure while remaining flexible enough to support future marketplace expansion, SDKs, wallet integrations, and the evolving Bittensor AI ecosystem.
HAPPY CLIENT
YeduCoders approached TNS as infrastructure rather than just another blockchain application. Their ability to design complex distributed architecture, balance decentralization with usability, and think strategically about the long-term evolution of the ecosystem made them an invaluable technology partner throughout the project.”
